ARTLIFTMENT: To uplift an area with mural art

ARTLIFTMENT’s first project and event is the ARTLIFTMENT Park Jam on Saturday 16 April 2011. The jam will be held at Searle Street Park, the corner of Searle Street and Chester Road in Woodstock, Cape Town. It will bring together 30 of Cape Town’s best mural artists who will collaborate to produce a world class mural production on the walls of the park. If you are unfamiliar with the concept of a park jam, the idea is to come relax in the park, socialise and connect with Cape Town’s best mural artists. If you like you can bring along a picnic, some camping chairs or even a soccer ball if you are that way inclined.

Searle Street park has seen better days. The graffiti which is currently on the walls of the park is disjointed and messy. The park itself is filled with litter and broken glass. The ARTLIFTMENT mural is one part of a broader mission to rejuvenate the park. Councillor Cedric Thomas as well as Moosa Sydow, chair of Walmer Estate Residents Community Forum have been involved in making the park jam a reality.

On Saturday 16 April, not only will your eyes be pleased by the sight of the mural art, your ears will enjoy the sounds of Redbull music truck. Redbull’s customised hummer will provide beats that will keep you entertained during the day.

The line up is as follows:

12-1pm : Oltak
1-2pm : Big Space
2-3pm : Blotchy
3-4pm : Magnum Hi-Fi
4-5pm : White nite

Please come join us to check out the mural painting. ARTLIFTMENT can only grow with your support.
